Respect for Law

Most Optimist Clubs celebrate Respect for Law Week during the second full week in May. The purpose of the program is to recognize the efforts of Law Enforcement Officers in local communities. The Plainfield Optimist Club annually hosts all the officers of the Plainfield Police Department to a banquet at a Club Meeting in early May. The Police Chief introduces all officers in attendance, and the Club presents a Law Officer of the Year Award to an officer based upon the recommendation of the Department.

The Club began recognizing an "Officer of The Year" in 1979. Over the years, the following officers have been recognized:

Firemen's Appreciation

The Plainfield Optimist Club annually hosts all the fire fighters and EMT's  of the Plainfield Fire Department to a banquet at a Club Meeting in March. The Fire  Chief introduces all fire fighters and EMT's in attendance, and the Club presents a Fireman of the Year Award to an fire fighters or   EMT based upon the recommendation of the Department.

 

 

 

Needy Family Christmas

The Plainfield Optimist Club annually "adopts" a needy family during the Christmas season. With the assistance of the Guilford Township Trustee, a needy family is identified. The Club contacts that family, finds out specific needs, and then makes sure the children receive at least one item of clothing and a gift, and that the family is provided with food.

The Plainfield Optimist Club, in Partnership with each of the schools in Plainfield, recognizes one teacher from each school for outstanding and dedicated service to our youth through their efforts in the classroom. Each teacher and their spouse are invited to a banquet at a Club Meeting in March or April where they are introduced by an administrator from their school and presented with an award from the Optimist Club. Teachers from each of the following schools are recognized each year:
