President’s Message:

Rick France, DOC President 2011-2012

N.O.W. is the time! We are doing pretty well in our membership campaign, but we need everyone’s help. Invite a prospective member, bring one with you, or send names to Jim Stockman or me to make the invitation. You out-of-towners may have contacts in Indy who would make good Optimists. Let us know. We’ll do the rest. The NOW luncheon is slated for Friday April 13th (after we return from our Good Friday break). Let’s get ‘er done as we close in on the NOW meeting date.

Breakfast with the Bunny is April 7th. This is a fun project in conjunction with Wesley United Methodist Church, and a fund raiser for DOC. Volunteers need to arrive at 8 a.m. The Breakfast runs from 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. Sell tickets, buy tickets, bring friends. See Cheryl Curry for details.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS:  Hilary Fautz, Stephen Schoentrup, Terina Schoentrup, and Marc Maxey

Clothe-A-Child – another Great Success. On Saturday, March 24th, club members showed up at 7 a.m. at JC Penny on North Michigan Road to prepare for the kids’ arrival. Megan and other JC Penny employees had things in order, juice, donuts and treats. 15 kids from the East 10th Street United Methodist Youth Program arrived, and we went “shopping” - new shoes, swim wear, school shorts, summer clothes, even underwear and socks. Thanks to DOCers: Diane Cordell, Chuck Curry, Cheryl Curry, Mandy Curry, Pat & Rick France, Vally Allen, Mary Pat McKee, Charley Koehler, Barb Milton, Ken Kolmerten (& checkbook). Bill Myers in the persona of Easter Bunny, Francine Bond (chairperson) and Jean Hill, who brought the kids. Guests: Nate Reed and Ashley Webster, and Katy Armor with Mandy Curry; Hanna Smiddy with Jeanie Hill; and Jennifer Huezko with Cheryl Curry. Finally, big thanks to Francine Bond project chair for the arrangements with JC Penny and to Jean Hill for rounding up and organizing the kids.

Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself

bullet

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

bullet

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

bullet

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

bullet

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

bullet

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.

bullet

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

bullet

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

bullet

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

bullet

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

bullet

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
